The ELACIN UniCom consists of:
Loudspeaker; specially designed for a soundproof fitting into the ELACIN UniCom hearing protector.
Cable; providing the electric connection between the loudspeaker and the radio receiver. This cable is very flexible and,
likes the loudspeaker, extremely light in weight.
We don’t use the limiter anymore. We supply a radio which is limited. So at this moment we supply a standard UniCom cable
without limiter but with a 3,5 mm jack plug and UniCom loudspeaker.
Jack plug: for connection to the radio receiver selected for this.
Dummy: which fits into the custom-made ear mould for use as hearing protector without receiver connection.
Why the ELACIN UniCom.
Music at work is in many cases a working condition, which can no longer be reversed. In practice not everyone is pleased
with this, especially in those situations in which the music drowns out the (industrial) noise. This lead to conflicts but may
even lead to dangerous situations; mistakes resulting from the irritation, disturbed contact with the environment or even
inadequate hearing protection!
The ELACIN UniCom makes it possible for everyone ‘to listen or not’ to the station desired, without disturbing anyone else.
The ELACIN UniCom therefore not only fills a need, but also enhances safety!
Product philosophy
The ELACIN UniCom has been developed:
for people who work in noisy environment, who have to wear hearing protection and wish to listen to the radio;
from the condition that the hearing protection function is not adversely affected, will not cause hindrance to the user and
its environment is minimal and will not put safety into question.
From the safety point of view it has been decided to offer the signal to only one ear. This way the contact with the
immediate environment is maintained as much as possible, which means an important improvement compared to the situations in
which the radio sound exceeds the ambient noise level. Next to the telephone or the dummy, also the familiar ELACIN filter has
been integrated into the ELACIN UniCom. This improves not only the audio contact with the immediate environment but also
provides the desired ventilation of the auditory duct.
In order to prevent that the ear mould is weight loaded by the telephone and its cable, adversely affecting the protective
function, the weight factor has played an important role in the development. Of course lightweight also benefits the comfort of
usage. The ELACIN UniCom is the lightest (ear) telephone available for this purpose.
Both earpieces have been designed identically so that the loudspeaker can be inserted into the left or the right ear as
desired. A possible reason for this may be: hearing impairment in one ear, working conditions in connection with the cable or
simply the fact that it is hard to choose in advance.
When there is no desire for listening, the ELACIN UniCom can easily be converted into an 'ordinary' ear protector by
inserting a dummy instead of the telephone. Thanks to this principle the ELACIN UniCom is also easy to service or to use by
several people.
Sound quality
Due to its design, the acoustic adjustment of the ear mould and the linking to the ear duct, the sound quality of the ELACIN
UniCom can easily bear comparison with the familiar Sony earphones.
Sound Pressure Level and Radio Receiver
To provide a safe (82 dB (A) Leq.8h ) sound level, the ELACIN UniCom is provided with an SPL-limiter. This limiter is standard
adjusted for connection to the Sony radio receiver type: SRF-M32. This is also this combination in which the ELACIN UniCom has
been certified preliminary based on the prEN 352-6. If an other type of receiver is wanted the SPL-limiter has, most probably,
to be redesigned. From a safety point of view, connection to a combined radio receiver / MC, MD or CD player is not possible.
The reason for this is that the output of the radio signal is usually 10 dB lower than when in the player-mode. So adjusting
the limiter to the highest level, the radio signal will be far to low.
The ELACIN UniCom is designed for use in noisy environments. For acceptable intelligibility of the receiver signal, the
signal level has to be at least 10 dB higher than the (remaining) noise level. This means that the filter has to reduce the
noise level to at least 70 dB. At this stage the ELACIN UniCom is only CE-certified in combination with the MM02 filter,
covering most of the general noise situations.
The reception of the radio receiver signal depends heavily on the signal itself, the structure of the building, the presence
of machinery, etc. However, there are systems on the market solving this problem. Often these systems also make it possible to
send a call through this system to the radio receivers.
Other applications
Apart from the designated radio receiver application the ELACIN UniCom can also be tuned to other communication systems. In
case of demand, please contact Groeneveld Elcea.
Maintenance
If not in use the ELACIN UniCom is to be kept in the case provided for this. The UniCom is sensitive to moist.
Patent.
The patent for the ELACIN UniCom is pending. If comparable systems on the market are noticed please contact Groeneveld
Elcea.
